Details:
Back in the late 70âs, a true renaissance in Beach Music occurred in the Southeast as many baby boomers, who had grown up in the 50âs and 60âs, cast aside the musical trends of the day and re-embraced the traditional sounds of R n B they had grown to love in their adolescent days. Along with traditional vintage hits came a tidal wave of new recordings by Southeastern juggernaut bands, like The Embers and The Catalinas, that broadened the horizons of the genre. A critical addition to the equation was the emergence of Texasâ revolutionary musical stylist, Delbert McClinton, as a defining entity on the scene. McClintonâs music incorporated an almost equal blend of Blues, R n B, country, Rock and Gospel with all of these elements interwoven to create a sound that defied any absolute classification. By the mid 80âs, as more acts began to follow this path, The term âBeach Boogie & Bluesâ came to define this style of music in Southeastern dance circles. Thus was born a new category of Beach Music, a form heavily geared toward the booming dance club scene. The music, like McClintonâs sound, carried a harder and more deeply defined bottom groove purely accentuating the âdance-quotientâ of the song. Bursting out of the club scene, this new soundâs popularity began to bleed over into Beach radio. This series of compilations features some of the prime material that has been integral to the growth of âBeach Boogie & Bluesâ.
