Details:
When Jessi Jordan was a little girl, she would sing along on with her mini tape recorder to Madonna and Michael & Janet Jackson hits. And she would get swept away to the sounds of Whitney Houston and New Edition. The precocious child would dance around her 3 story Brooklyn, New York home and sing to a full audience every night⦠all 14 of her family dogs. Yes, 14!
âI was always a songwriter and an entertainer. I would make up songs about doing my chores while not doing my chores which drove my mother crazy,â says Jessi Jordan, who made a name for herself as a music producer with the 2004 mega hit âF.U.R.B.â, which rose to #27 on the Year End Billboard Charts, as well as producing remixes for Pink, Beyonce and 3LW, just to name a few.
âI have always loved pop music! There is just something about it that makes you feel so good. No matter where you are or what you are doing, a song can make you remember that moment⦠your first kiss, your first fight, your first make up kiss⦠thereâs a song for it!â says Jessi. âAnd, as an artist I just want to be a part of making memories.â
That goal might seem lofty, but consider the artist: Jessi is a girl who began singing before she could talk and who began talking at 10 months old. At age 2, she began singing solos in her grandfatherâs church choir. By age 12, she had written her first song. At 14, she began performing at local talent shows and events in and around the New York Metropolitan Area. At age 17, she became one of a select handful of young women to earn admission to and attend Columbia University School of Engineering and Applied Science. While attending Columbia and preparing to become an Industrial Engineer, Jessi longed for a career doing the music that made her so happy growing up. âI studied a lot! You have to in that environment but I would put down my calculus book everyday when TRL would came on!â says Jessi. âI would see the next big thing getting his or her big break and my heart would sink because I knew I was doing what was âsafeâ and âpracticalâ according to my parents and according to the world at large and not what would make me happy.â
Albert Einstein said "The only real valuable thing is intuition.â and Jessi has made it her priority to follow hers. âMy goal as an artist is to show people that itâs more than ok to just be yourself, whom ever she maybe,â says Jordan, who wrote all of her lyrics and melodies on her new album, Intuition. "All too often we are told to fit into a mold or into someone else's vision of who we should be. On this album, I threw out all the rules. I just followed my instincts; I followed my heart and went where it led me."
On "Intuition", Jessi practices what she calls her brand of musical alchemy and she has successfully blended all her musical influences in pure gold. The albumâs opener and title song, âIntuition,â gets the dance floor rocking with its âsexy, beat driven, self-celebratory vibe.â As for the equally catchy, "Naughtyâ and "Delusions of Grandeur", Jessi doesn't mind showing off her naughty side. "Itâs all in good fun" she says with a coy smile.
"Love/Hate" is flirty, playful and fun but displays a complicated side of love and how loving someone sometimes causes internal struggles inside of you. âTalk Talkâ talks about needing a break from a monotonous relationship and âBurn Outâ is an 80âs throw back dance groove that you put on when just have had enough of all the pressures in your life and need to blow off some steam.
The rock sprinkled pop female anthem, "Boys" conjures up a vision of thousands of tween and teen girls singing at the top of their lungs. "I really wanted to show young girls all their beauty and all their power!" says Jessi. "Jada Pinkett Smith said it best "Girls hold up this world!"
Jessi also shows her passion for love songs on such softer tracks as âNumbâ and the sweetest break-up lullaby âFlatlineâ. âFlatlineâ is the most vulnerable song on the album,â she explains. "Itâs the musical equivalent of crying yourself to sleep". And on first listen, âNumbâ might seem like a love song, but "in all honestly itâs the Anti love song âJessi jokes. "Its a total shift of power"
It isnât rare for a pop star to be a triple threat however it is rare to meet one that is a music producer, a songwriter and a singer. Jessi Jordan is that rare pop star and in following her intuition, has earned the right to reach for the sky.
