14 MP3 Songs in this album (45:44) !
Related styles: POP: 60's Pop, COUNTRY: Modern Country
Details:
This is my second album. I penned these songs over a period of about twenty years in between raising
two kids and getting through two wives. Someone once told me to "Get a Life", Well I guess Ive lived
enough for two at least. My first love has always been music and writing but when friends and colleagues
kept pestering me to record in my own name I did it to keep the peace. My first album received some good
reviews, which surprised and pleased me so I thought "What the Hell, Lets do it again", so here it is.
I titled this album Im from over the water, because wherever I go people say "Oh, Youre from Liverpool,
but Im from Wirral, and proud of it. Many great musicians come from this side of the Mersey, but please dont put me in the same bracket as the great ones, I could never be that. Not in this life anyway!
I have worn many hats in my time, including seafaring, driving busses, songwriting and producing, and laterly
being involved in community radio, involving technical support, producing programs and even, for my sins,
presenting a number of programs, which I enjoyed immensely.
To produce an album requires a lot of cooperation with other "Musos" and this album is no different.
I have to thank many friends and colleagues who joined me in this project. So here they are.
On drums Me and Lee Peters, Bass guitars, Me and Michael Beard Rhythm Guitars, Lee Peters, Michael Beard,
Alan Bradburn, Me, Paul Shooter and last but not least Richie Edwards. Lead guitars where Alan Bradburn,
Michael Bead, Richie Edwards, Paul Shooter, Lee Peters and Me. Keyboards, Michael Beard and Me.
I guess I had quite a lot of input on this album and I sang the songs as well.
I was once asked if I could go back in time what year would I go to. That was an easy question to answer.
Any year in the sixties! They were the great years where music was concerned, as I drenched myself in the Merseysounds, following groups like the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, The Searchers, The swinging blue jeans, I played the places like The Cavern and the Iron Door, and even performed in Pete Bests cellar club, The Casbah in Haymans Green but missed out on the lucrative record deals through bad timing and bad luck. But through it all I never lost my love for writing ballads and country songs and even went as far as to write historical numbers like "Rocket" which tell the story of the Rainhill Trials and Robert Stephensons Yellow locomotive "Rocket"
Some of these songs have familiar titles but are totally different songs. I wrote then as a project
to keep me occupied during illness when I was confined to the home and bored out of my head.
Having participated in the NBT "Ride the train" series I decided to give these numbers an airing, which I think
they deserve as theyve been hanging round my studio for too long already.
So I hope you will enjoy listening to my efforts and maybe even take time to send feedback which I always appreciate, good or bad.
Please accept my best wishes
John
