Details:
Bridge & Tunnel, aka Rauri Finan is a miniscule, prepubescent, 7th grader waaay inda back a da room fullada most promisinâ highschool trumpet players in da tristate area, attendinâ da annual Carnegie Mellon Jazz Festival a 1989. Art Farmer (master flugelhorn and trumpet be-bop player) is conductinâ a seminar anâ has just finished playinâ a lil improvised #. He looks arounda room, smiles anâ sez, "Thatâs how I feel right now. We are each gonna do the same and just play how we feel, right now." What ensues are suckup solos a every variety cuz you ainât playinâ inda highschool auditorium, nah, yer playin fer Art Farmer anâ heâs listeninâ. Dese kids are whippinâ out da best a what dey got. Coppinâ Miles, Bach etudes or bustinâ a lip, bent over, blowinâ like Marsalis. Finally deyâre all done, Rauri is as nervous as a sacka shit on railroad tracks. Art addresses, "You, the quiet kid in the back, stand up and give us what you got." Rauri puts his horn up ta his lips anâ emits, "Ffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrppp" One looong, single note lastinâ about 10 Mississippi seconds. Immediately sits down, da room resounds wit a quick chuckle as dey all check ta see what Arts got ta say, he smiles anâ nods in agreeance, "That was the best one so far."
And DAT, is a true story motherfucker. I got udders but dese bios are only supposed ta be a page long.
Bridge & Tunnel is Rauri Finan. My friends say my stuff is a mix a WEEN anâ da Beastie Boys wit a sorta trance rock sound. But dereâs all sortsa shit on dere like da last one "All Through the Night" #13, is backwoods bootstompinâ porch drinkinâ Appalachian country folk. "Sunday Afternoon" #5 is a lackadaisical, dubbed and doped out dreamer.
Iâm from Pittsburgh Pennsyltucky, I lived in NYC fer 5 years and now I live in San Francisco. I been singinâ in churches, choirs, anâ playinâ various instruments since 5. Lessee, I was in da South Hills Junior orchestra fer violin anâ trumpet, only thing a note was playinâ on da White House lawn. I was in da Pittsburgh Travelling Boy Choir, but dat cost too much, so my mom yanked me. Was in all da highschool symphonic, marching and jazz bands, picked up a euphonium dere. Studied sound production at Penn State University anâ spent a year doing da same at Leeds University in England. Da only press I got, is some backinâ tracks dat made it onta da "Extreme History" show hosted by Roger Daltrey on da History Channel. In one episode, when Roger is collectinâ cow shit fer campfire fuel, Yep, datâs my music inda background.
