Details:
Siddharth Chaudhuri (Vocals)

Siddhartha Sankar Chaudhuri was born in Howrah, W. Bengal, India. He began training at the age of five under his father, the late Tara Prasad Chaudhuri, who was a disciple of the legendary Ustad Amir Khan. He then trained rigorously under his grand uncle Pandit Adinath Chaudhuri, a renowned musicologist and disciple of Sangeetacharya Pandit Tarapada Chakraborti (a.k.a âTiger of Bengal").

Further development of his music came from listening to various artistes such as: Amir Khan, Bade Gulam Ali Khan, Mallikarjun Mansor, Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Jasraj, Rashid Khan, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Abdul Karim Khan, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson and others.

His music is also inspired by the reading of novels such as âJean Christovâ by Romarola and from outdoor pursuits such as sea-beach & forest trekking.

Siddharthâs career in Indian classical music started in 1997 when he accompanied Pandit Prabhakar Karekar at the prestigious 44th Annual DOVERLANE Conference in Calcutta.

He also accompanied Pandit Prabhakar Karekar in Durgapur Rabindra Bhavan and Asansole Rabindra Bhavan in W. Bengal in 1998.

In 1997 he was the youngest recipient of the prestigious âSachin Dev Burmanâ award from Tripura for vocal music.

Since then he has been recorded extensively. One title, âRejoiceâ released by Rageshree Music, is available through The Asia Society in New York.

He has worked on the scores of several film productions in India and USA. He has also performed for the Tara Bangla, Zee TV and ATN World television networks of India.

He has a feature credit as a singer in the Bengali feature film âBhalo Thekoâ, directed by Gautam Halder and nominated for Guttenborg International Film Festival.

He was an active part of the Black Coffee Arts Movement of Calcutta in 2001, a grass roots effort by young artists to take music, theater, literature and visual art to the youth through street, campus and outdoor performances. He is the first classical vocalist to be part of such a movement and has become popularly known as âSIDDââ amongst the youth of India.

Most recently, Siddharth has recorded for the music of Ryan Shah's electronic project Time Spy. The new CD release of this music, entitled "Time Spy Sadda Sidd Remixes", is available for purchase on this page.

His highest musical passion, however, remains performing traditional Kheyal raag vistar with Tabla accompanist Ryan Shah. See www.SiddharthChaudhuri.com for MP3 and Video samples.

From August 1997 to January 1999, Ryan and two local Columbia musicians (Zack Jones, Franklin Caggiano) joined together in Medulla Peltor, an improvisational trio that fused influences of Led Zeppelin, John Coltrane Quartet, The Meters, Miles Davis, Anthony Braxton and Mahavishnu Orchestra among others.

While living in New York and Boston, Ryan attended many Indian classical music concerts. In 1997, he began study of Tabla with Pralad Khutri in Charlotte, NC.

In the summer of 1999 Ryan travelled to Calcutta to begin studying with the maestro Ustad Sabir Khan of the Farrukhabad Gharana.

On his second trip to Calcutta in 2001, Ryan formed Time Travil, fusing elements of Classical Indian Music with Improvisational Jazz. Time Travil performed in Calcutta at Rabindra Sadan, St. Xavier's College, Royal Calcutta Golf Club and on the Tara Bangla TV show "On Date Special". Time Travil also performed in the US at The Knitting Factory in New York and in the Charleston Cultural Festival in South Carolina among other venues in the southeast and New England.

In the winter of 2004, Ryan played in Tanmoy Bose's fusion band Taal Tantra and performed at the following venues in Calcutta: Salt Lake stadium, Swabhumi, Calcutta Cricket and Football Club, Calcutta Club, Nazrul Manch (with The Violin Bros.) among others.

Since 2003 Ryan has been composing music electronically under the name of Time Spy.

In the winter of 2005 Ryan performed percussion duets in Kolkata with Gokul Das (Dhak) and also with Monojith Datta (Conga).

In the summer of 2006 Ryan performed on Tabla in various groups with Jeff Sipe in the southeast US.

During the years of 2007 and 2008 Ryan has been studying the Farrukhabad and Benares Gharanas of Tabla under Dr. Panab Kumar Das in Kolkata and has also been practicing Kheyal Vocal accompaniment with Pt. Siddharth Chaudhuri.

Recently, he has overdubbed Siddharth's voice on several of his Time Spy tracks.
