A beast with twelve limbs and three throats, This Bright Apocalypse pillages the planet and regurgitates its sounds in a dubb-y, math-y, afrobeat-y blend of post-rock goodness.

The new album, "Asumaya," was written between 2003 and 2005, while Luke Bassuener (vocals, bass, percussion) was a Peace Corps volunteer in Northern Ghana. It's a polyrhythmic affair full of layered vocal harmonies, shifting time signatures and collaborations with Ghanaian musicians lovingly captured on a dusty old four-track. The Onion named it one of Madison's best releases of 2008 even before it was officially released.

This is only the most recent in a number of lives though for This Bright Apocalypse. From 1996-1998 the beast toddled around in its infancy. 1999-2002 saw some CDR releases, two comps (Arborvitae Records âForeign Nationalsâ and Varsity Records âThe Starting Line-Upâ) and a handful of tours. Then in 2003 it spread forth its spawn: A proper full-length on 54 40 or Fight Records entitled âMotion and Rest.â A brief buzz was followed by hibernation (read: Peace Corps). 2006 marked the rebirth.

The future is bright. The armageddon will be well polished.
