In a small southern town, a white woman is raped and a Black man named Garth (O.J. Simpson) is instantly blamed for it. Many of the town leaders and local men belong to the loacal order of the Klu Klux klan and form a lynching party to hunt him down. The local sheriff (Lee Marvin) trys to calm things down but has little help. Garth finds safety in the woods as he plans his revenge on the klan for killing his friend.
