Alternative Rock
14 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Modern Rock, POP: Power Pop
Details:
BOOK OF STORMS is the alternative rock alter-ego of Liza Carbe and J.P. Durand, who also perform in the prominent national "latin guitar world fusion" group, Incendio. Formed in 1996, BOOK OF STORMS concocts an eclectic mixture of rock, blues, and folk influences, delivering dark, thoughtful songs and passionate performances.
Their 2001 release City of Souls featured Liza Carbe on vocals and bass, J.P. Durand on vocals and guitar, Tamara Coe on vocals and guitar, and Joe Shotwell on drums. Prior to the official release, two tracks were licensed to films: the song "City of Souls" was placed in the movie "Horror 101", and the song "Following the Sun" was placed in the movie "Microscopic Boy". Their original debut release on their own Screaming Monkey Music label, Little Meagan's Diary, came out in the fall of 1997.
Liza Carbe toured and recorded with Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham, Vixen (where she and Tamara Coe first met), Sara Hickman, and Santana vocalist Leon Patillo. She and her partner J.P. Durand have honed their songwriting skills while working in the Southern California club and studio scene over the years. Their love of 60's pop, 70's rock, and the subtle influences of everything in between, from punk to progressive, have created a unique and aggressive musical brew. As Liza states, "For so many years, I've wanted my own outlet for more complex musical and lyrical ideas, and have finally achieved it with this band."
