Anyone who has spent time in Miami knows youâve got to speak at least two languages to get by, usually within one conversation. Thatâs why my music became âBilingual Funky Tropicaleâ in this town. But let me back up. After playing with the Orquesta Nueva Era at the âEnd of the Universe Ballâ in Seattle, I went directly to the airport and got on one of those cheap Y2K flights. Six years later this album culminates some of my key experiences in that time. Dominicans, Cubans, Jamaicans, Brazilians, Argentines, Barbadians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Puerto Ricans, Brooklynites and San Francisco-philes have all been integral to the special mix on this record.
