Details:
I am a native Californian who believes that anyone who comes here and can get along and hang out and try to make a contribution can be a native Californian too. My GPs blew in from Oklahoma with a dust storm that coincided with the depression. We are still very greatful to be here.
This CD is my reflection of a California feel. I am rendering my perspective on this wonderful place. I started playing trombone in Jazz bands and in a funk band with Richard Berry, the author of Louie, Louie and he had me sing a few times a night to break up the feel and give his voice a rest (we played all night).
When I first started singing and playing at the piano, I was learning Steve Miller, Neil Young and Leon Russell as well as jazz and classical, for school. I have always wanted to combine elements of folk, jazz, rock and even classical and have it come out as just good music. One of my favorite professors at Northridge once said, âThere are two kinds of music, good and bad.â I bought into that to the degree that opening up more possibilities is smarter than closing them off.
So, how do I describe this album? This is straight-ahead rock or adult rock with a folk song foundation and some jazzy affectations. Mostly itâs about the songs providing image and story. We also feature great players who contribute to the final outcome and I cannot take the credit for that. Robert Battaglia has been the real catalyst that we call âthe producerâ and produce he did. Calling in the right people and letting me call the shots that I am responsible for, while guiding us to the agreed finish that was as much unexpected as expected.
I ask that you take the time to sample the sound clips and then buy it.
