Violin-driven Eclectic Folk-Rock

8 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Folk Rock, FOLK: Folk Blues

Details:
Blue Lightning is a Portland-based folk-rock band with a violin lead. The group's refreshing originals run the gamut from haunting to buoyant, and their innovative renditions of covers span a variety of musical styles, including elements of rockabilly, jazz, klezmer, and blues.

Their unique violin-driven sound, along with the passion and energy they bring to their performances, are luring fans across the board. Showcasing violin on songs like Bob Dylanâs âMozambiqueâ and the blues-rock classic "Call Me the Breeze" demonstrates Blue Lightning's creativity, and accounts for their appeal to a wide audience.

The band features the skills of classically trained violinist and singer Deborah Katz, the songwriting and vocal talents of lead singer Mary Harvard, guitarist and songwriter Rob Richter, bass and mandolin player Tommy Dunne and drummer Bob Anderson.

Here's what people are saying about Blue Lightning:

"Skilled and prominent violin parts fill "Maestro in the
Jam," the newest album from Portland folk-pop group Blue
Lightning. Yet the band has more depth, including klezmer
influences and Cuban rhythm drums."

âThe Oregonian, Portland, OR, August 4, 2006

"With influences as diverse as Scarlet Rivera, Slim Harpo
and Neil Young, Portland acoustic rock band Blue
Lightning has been firing up local audiences with its
high-octane stage show and superb musicianship..."

âThe Daily Astorian, Astoria, OR, August 2, 2006
*****************************
"I listened to their version of Mozambique and loved
it. They have tremendous energy and they sound like they
are having a lot of fun...This band took a great song
and made it into something very new."

âMichael Tearson, program host, Sirius Satellite Radio
Network. Michael also spent nearly 40 years as a DJ,
mostly in Philadelphia.

âIs it possible to take the intellectual side of music
and have the sound burst into the airwaves with
a tone that is, well, new?

Hell yeah.......edgy nuances with hip violin lead
support the rock-solid side of Blue Lightning. Portland
has never had a band like this.

Blue Lightning, strike me again!â

A fabulous amalgam of Zydeco percussion, klezmer
violin, powerful vocals, and a terrific trumpet
solo, "Chillâ will move you and get you moving! Great
ensemble playing of a song that sounds like no other....
Blue Lightning crackles!"

âMorry Feldman
Clear Channel Communications, and former Music
Director at rock station WRKZ-FM 93.7 in Pittsburgh, PA

and a fun and exciting style."
