Description:
A supersonic casserole of punk, alternative, electronica, and outright weirdo rock and roll in the grand tradition of Devo and The Pixies.
14 MP3 Songs
POP: Quirky, ROCK: Goth
Details:
THE BLACK MATH EXPERIMENT is an unsigned band of questionable taxonomy from Houston, TX, which has been together since September of 2004. The band grew out of the mind of BILL CURTNER (guitars/programming), a musician of thirteen years and former member of Zapgun, Dorian Grey and Beta Duo who, while attending a Dead Hand System show being opened by four forgettable Nu-Metal bands, realized that truly fearless and original music was going to fade away if something was not done. Enlisting the aid of his long-time friend CHRIS SOLIZ (keyboards), whom has not yet been proven conclusively to exist at the time of this writing, they began scouring the sticky nether regions of cyber space for like-minded individuals fed up with the timid state of modern music. Their harvest included the United States Armyâs own CAPTAIN MONGO NELSON (bass), CHRISTI LAIN (vocals), a Dayton, TX choirgirl recently voted Garageband.comâs #5 Best Experimental Rock Female Vocalist of all-time and her twin brother JEF WITH ONE F (vocals), hypnotist, luchador, and transvestite fresh off a stint directing a production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The group instantly clicked, writing over thirty songs by the end of the year.
Their collective influences include Devo, The Pixies, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Blondie, My Life With the Thrill Kill Cult and The Ramones, as well as modern philosophers like Bill Hicks, P. D. Ouspensky, and The Upright Citizens Brigade.
In December of 2004, they debuted as a live act at Helioâs in Houston, and released their first E.P., WHAT WE DO... IS SECRET on June 11, 2005. In July, they added to their ranks BRIAN COLEMAN (drums), a former Scientology praise band percussionist, and released their first full-length album, FAKE WORDS AND SIGNS FROM SPACE, on December 17. Theyâve opened for national touring acts like Gene Loves Jezebel, Peelander-Z, and Nina Hagen, as well as being featured in the Houston Chronicle and The Daily Cougar. What We Do... Is Secret was the featured album on WFDUâs âThe Shape of Things to Comeâ all the way in New York City. The sextet is currently hard at work spreading their first album, and beginning the next phase of their work.
