The Civil War has been called a musical war, because some 2000 songs were written in the first year alone. By the end of the war, more songs had been created than during all other wars combined. We chose some of our favorites to share on this album.

Bittersweet and Briers plays American and Celtic folk music. We discovered many of the songs of the Civil War came from those sources, so we felt quite at home making this album. The liner notes have been carefully researched to provide information about each selection. Songs on the album reflect the attitudes (some strong) of both the North and the South. These are some of the songs often requested when the band plays for Civil War reenactment events. The album is dedicated to the memory of those ancestors of the band who were veterans of both the North and the South.
