Ninteenth Century Traditional
15 MP3 Songs
FOLK: Traditional Folk, COUNTRY: Country Rock
Details:
Antebellum Radio is the name of a one man band, with kick-drum percussion, concertina or mandolin, harmonica, & vocals, & the heart of the storyteller minstrel.
Antebellum Radio is also the name of the C.D. release, from the studios of Creative Audio, The Friendly Forrest, engineered by Joe Funderburk, produced by Pierry Productions, recorded in nineteen ninty-nine, in Nashville, Tennessee.
The name Antebellum Radio comes from my imaginary notion that the concertina, setting at rest, looks quite like a radio, from some long forgotten yesterday. One might almost feel the need to lean down, & listen closely to hear the strains of the silent, never ending tale of the past.
Being raised in the turbulent sixties, my heart quickens at the strains of the rock & the roll. Yet, also, since childhood, my heart has quickened to the unheard beckonings of what we all call, yesterday.
So it was, that, in eighty-seven, my wonder horse Amazing Grace & I became American Civil War U. S. Western Federal Cavalry Troopers.
It was during this time, "tenting on the old camp ground" through many states, sometimes among thousands, feeling that, "I had seen him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps, they had builded him an altar in the evening dews & damps. I could read his righteous sentence by the dim & flaring lamp," that I truly became fond of those beautiful old songs of the nineteenth century.
It is only natural then, that this first release of Antebellum Radio should have the theme of that sad & yet strangely uplifting period of our national history.
Stephen Foster & Daniel Decatur Emmitt, as well as others, come to life once again, whispering to us, that we are, as they were.
A special thanks to Ken Frasure & his wonderful bass, as well as David Shawl with his lovely guitar accompaniment & beautiful vocal harmonies, without which, this recording would yet be just a dream in my vivid imagination.
