Details:
Bill Ely & the Catnips are a mysterious & prolific songwriting partnership based in Aberdeen, Scotland. Formed in early 2004, the duo quickly combined their disabilities to form a sound that they dubbed âCajun Punkâ. The next two years were spent creating & discarding songs, interspersed with occasional live performances that left audiences disturbed and elated.
Extensive bootlegging and whispering dragged the twosome out of the darkness and forced them to finally commit a selection of their 100+ tunes to tape.
Producer Shawn âThe Oxâ Skinner granted âDukeâ Gene Arnold (vox & guit) and Mike Leonard (vox & drum) access to his poorly-secured basement studio for one night, in which time the sick duo shouted every word they could at him and he wrote it all down in his electric box. âThis is not an album for schlomosâ, he was heard to comment.
From the opening spasm of the albumâs first cut, "Iron Lung RockânâRoll", the duo adhere staunchly to their signature caveman 1/1 time rhythm, forcing their festering thug-pop down the throats of all tomorrowâs children. A truly 22nd Century recording, "Wings To The Bird, Fangs To The Beast" combines a sickening mix of electrifyingly cruel rat-metal (Heavy Metal SS, Ken Fights For Justice, Dead Girl) and sub-toxic tramp punk (Monster Race, I Cannot Believe That, King Cheetah). Bill Ely & the Catnips make records for the forgotten ghost of your dead dream, today.
2006 sees the Catnips at the top of their game, playing with such hot talent as the Needles, Goldblade and King Liar & the Brutes.
If beetles had blood and could work together towards a common goal, they couldnât even listen to this music. You heard it here first.
