Become A Better Shooter in About 30 Minutes!

Picture 3 Correct Way to Pressure With Shooting Thumb and Pad Below

Now that I've shown you the basics, let's get to my recipe for secrets!

Become A Better Shooter in About 30 Minutes!

Anyone that knows anything about an equation knows that both sides must be equal in order for the equation to be balanced. For example let's look at (32 + ? = 32 + ?). Whatever you add to 32 on the left side, you must add that to the right side in order for the equation to be balanced. One side clearly affects the other. Shooting the basketball I am about to instill in you the knowledge necessary to understand what causes a shot to go in or rim out. This will give you that edge at any point in the game. While your opponent struggles and is told to just keep shooting until it goes in, you will have the ability to consistently knock down shot after shot with fresh or tired legs. The ball will feel lighter in your hands because the distance needed to make the shot will be shortened. Ok, let's go!

Become A Better Shooter in About 30 Minutes!

I call it Midpoint Shooting. In order for the ball to go in it must reach and begin to descend at the midpoint between the shooter and the basket at a height that is half that of the basket. See my illustration.
Half the height of the target

The shot starts below the level of the rim. In order for the ball to have a chance to go in it must begin its descent from above the rim. The shooter must (through practice) find his midpoint. That midpoint will change at the free throw line, the three point line, and all other spots on the floor. Once the midpoint is established and the proper shot preparation executed, the ball must reach that midpoint at 15 feet (basket height + 5 feet above rim) and begin its descent toward the basket once reached. You don't have to worry about reaching the rim per say. All you have to do is perfect reaching your midpoint, and math will take care of the rest. Knowing that your distance is shorter makes the ball feel a bit lighter in your hands. That's more of a mental thing! It takes more effort to get the ball to rise than to fall due to gravity. Get it halfway there, and gravity will take the ball the equal distance on the way down. Look at these illustrations care of my good friend Dick.
