Rootwords, LarynX and VLM met in Switzerland in 2000 and from their diverse backgrounds of Zambia, Ghana and Mexico, emerged A-stout: a musical venture of international proportions delivering consistently high-quality hip-hop.

A-stout brings hip-hop back to its roots and elevates people through meaningful lyrics and unusual references that inspire thought and contemplation.

With a solid fan base established through their underground work on mixtapes and gigs, A-stout has quickly gained a reputation of being in a class of its own. They are now working on their first commercial album while releasing their first party single, âDrinksâ in the summer of â09.

Rootwords

The product of a highly educated family of seven, Rootwords, born in the United States of Zambian heritage, brings rhyming to higher levels. Having moved around frequently in his youth, Rootwords has developed the gift of being able to communicate thoughts and words to an international audience. During his studies, Rootwords released tracks on numerous mixtapes and performed in venus of many types and sizes. He was once called to rap on stage with Common who was seriously impressed with his lyrical aptitude and flow. Rootwords describes his rhyming and musical vision as the rawest and purest form of hip-hop. Much like a âroot wordâ itself being a word devoid of any affixes. He is pouring all his lyrical prowess and genius into A-stoutâs debut album!


LarynX

LarynX, originally from Ghana, has lived in the US and Switzerland before settling in the UK. LarynX met Rootwords and VLM in Switzerland and he developed his rapping skills along with them, appearing on numerous mixtapes and live venues. LarynX, naming himself after the sound-producing organ itself, brings hip-hop to its core. He shares with the other members of A-stout, the international reach of his message and highly lyrical content. Larynx is using all his lyrical might to ensure A-stoutâs debut album is a success.


VLM

VLM aka Vato Loco Mixtli, originally from Mexico, moved to Switzerland at a young age where he began producing beats over nine years ago. Having taught himself how to express his innate musical sense in the hip-hop, R&B and soul genres, VLM has been working with A-stout since its beginnings in 2000 and making beats around the world. After moving to London for his further studies, VLM also mastered sound engineering and got involved with renowned artists like Jay Sean for whom he managed sound for live events, radio and TV. VLM is now working day and night to ensure the musical perfection of A-stoutâs debut album!
