Details:
The barren, distilled pictures that Asyst paints with their new album âDestined to be Damnedâ would lead you to believe that the members are brooding, dark individuals with a lot of anger inside. âWell, that might apply to Vicâ Mike Silva, drummer for the band, jokes. In reality, the three members of Asyst â which includes Dipendra Bagchee on guitars and Victor Rodriguez on bass â are just three good friends that enjoy making music together. âWe donât take ourselves too seriously, we like to have fun and joke around a lot. Weâre all big jokers.â Dipendra says.

Why then, did they choose such a dark title? âWe picked the album title after looking at what common themes the songs on the album had.â Vic explains. âWeâve all been through a lot these past two years, so weâve had a lot of personal experiences to pull from for inspiration.â The anthem âGoneâ speaks to the loss of a friend to other priorities. âLilithâ talks of that moment your life flashes before your eyes in a motorcycle crash, which all of them have experienced first hand. They also address other issues on the new album, including alcoholism, war and infidelity.

Asyst takes their influences from a wide span of artists, from the classic thrash of Metallica to the urban beats of 50 Cent to the country/blues of Johnny Cash and it shows in the diversity of their sound. The haunting title track is almost completely electronic while âBroken Glassâ is razor edged metal. âWe donât want to get pigeon-holed into one soundâ, Dipendra states, âour taste in music constantly changes, and the music weâve been writing lately has definitely developed a life of itâs own. We really concentrated on the lyrics and song writing this time.â âBeing a three piece, I think weâve had toâ Mike adds. âWe donât have much to hide behind on stage, so the songs have to hold up even if we donât have an army of musicians to play them.â

Their versatility shows in their live show as well. Asyst has played with bands in all genres, from death and black metal to indie rock and punk, and gets a great response from all types of audiences. âWeâve even played a couple hip-hop shows where we were the only rock bandâ, Vic grins, âit was great â we love getting people out of their comfort zones and turning them on to us. Itâs all about getting one fan at time.â

On stage, you may notice the distinct lack of a front man. In fact, all of them take turns on the lead vocals, with the other two members often incorporating two and three part harmonies to the songs. âWe typically write the song first, then we figure out whoâs going to get stuck singing it.â Dipendra laughs. The chemistry is incendiary on stage, the fire is lit in their eyes as they ignite the audience. âPlaying live is what we live for.â Mike says, with the others nodding in agreement.

The release of âDestined To Be Damnedâ marks a new chapter in the Asyst story and they cordially invite you to be a part of it.
