So I decided to forego hiring a free-lance writer to pen my biography, or to have my non-existent, behemoth record label cronies write it for me. Whatâs the point of that? So for all intents and purposes this is an autobiography, rather than merely an interpretation of my life written by someone that doesnât know me any better than they know their mailmanâs illegitimate childâs best friend.

Being raised in the Pacific Northwest exposed me to a unique dichotomy of classism and economic disparity: a handful of rich citizens and a slew of people living in shambles. I never understood why it had to be that way or how so many could continue to be oppressed. All I knew is that I wanted to make it my mission to improve everyoneâs life for the better, to show there is purpose in it all. Basically, I wanted some way to be able to be a voice for the voiceless, to expose stories that needed to be told, and offer solutions to all of the problems. I could not live with myself if I continued to sit idly by, passively condoning actions by not speaking out. At six years old, I found my voice in music.

Luckily, I came from a musical family. My mom taught me piano before I even knew how to tie my shoes, and my dad coupled that with exposing me to Hendrix, Creedence, and The Beatles. At the same time, I used to sneak into the living room at night and be lulled to sleep by 2Pac, Naughty by Nature, Nas, etc. on âYo! MTV Raps.â Before long, I knew what I was destined to do and how I was meant to do it. So I started writing - a lot. Poems, lyrics, short stories, TV Pilots; anything as long as there was paper in front of me and a pen in my hand.

At 14, I adopted the moniker of âAlexipharmicâ by looking in the dictionary for anything that started with my name: â A*lexi*phar"mic, n. (Med.) An antidote against poison or infection; a counter poison.â I ran with it.

Now here I am, 20 years old, on a never-ending quest to contribute to the empowerment of individuals through music. 50 of everything I make musically â merch sales, CD profits, concert revenue, etc. â goes to charity. It will always be that way, even if that means I have to keep a day job in order to pay for it. To me, it is not an option as to whether or not I can help people â it is a compulsion. Music is in my blood, and it is my duty to give back more than has been given me in life. I am incredibly blessed to be able to pursue my dreams. I want to make sure everyone else can do the same. Iâm not going to claim to âbe hip hopâs saviorâ or âchange the face of the industry.â To do so would be ludicrous, arrogant, and short-sighted.

Iâm just a kid doing my best to pitch in to the beauty of humanity and raise the collective consciousness of all, to show that life is a beautiful struggle despite all the trouble, and to help drive the poison out of this world.

Letâs move things forward to the Promised Land.
