Weâre the Allen Sisters â Penny Allen (Firefighter / EMT II-D and mother of two), and Theresa Allen (TSA Agent and mother of three). We were born and raised on the small Southeast Alaskan island of Wrangell (pronounced ârain-gullâ), which lies just above Ketchikan. We have been singing since we were old enough to talk, and started writing our own music in 1997. Penny plays rhythm guitar and writes some, while Theresa does most of the writing. We went to Nashville in June of 2002 to make our first recording at Hill Top Studios. Some of the studio musicianâs names will be familiar, i.e. Milton Sledge on Drums, and Glen Duncan on Fiddle. With more than talented musicians, it was easy to turn out a great record. Having such a great experience at Hill Top Studios with the first album, and success selling our CDâs, we went ahead and recorded our second album, âJump the Wavesâ, at the same location in May of 2005. Weâve sent CDâs to neighboring islands throughout Southeast Alaska, and are getting a lot of support and airtime from the radio stations. Weâve also sent our CDâs to radio stations throughout the U.S. Our first CD was featured in the radio reporting magazine âNew Music Weeklyâ. Our first single, âWhere Did I Go Wrongâ made it on the charts of the Up and Coming section, and ultimately made it into the top 40, being one of the three most added songs! Our second CD, âJump the Wavesâ are being sent out to the radio stations. We know our music will do well because it is original and ârefreshingâ (Frank Green - Engineer). And Bill Evans says, âItâs new and fresh.â Weâve heard nothing but great things from people who have heard it (including DJâs from major radio stations, listeners from all over the US and Canada, and music festival coordinators). When asking people what their favorite song is, we have gotten twenty different answers, which is good news to us, because we donât ever want to put out a CD with just one or two good songs on it. We want people to be able to put in the music and enjoy the entire CD. We always feel a little cheated when we buy a CD with one hit and a bunch of filler songs â We donât want anyone to feel that way about our music.
