About Through the Solar Waves

In 2004, the band decided to raise some cash and self finance an album. The demos were picked up by a number of producers, the band settling on Ian Grimble (Travis, Texas, Manic Street Preachers) and work began at 2KHz Studios in January last year. There they used a 1968 EMI desk that was originally purpose built for John Lennon and Phil Spector for the Imagine album sessions. Further to this, the band used the drumming skills of friend of the band Luke Bullen, (KT Tunstall and Joe Strummer) and the Hammond organ skills of Julian Wilson of Grand Drive.

Recording took about 30 days over the course of 3 months including a trip to Rockfield Studios in Wales, where they recorded the piano (incidentally the Bösendorfer grand played by Mercury on Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody) and the Rhodes organ parts. Ian was keen to capture the retro sound that they have, so avoided modern instruments where possible. Interestingly enough the EMI desk was removed from 2khz upon completion of the album, so it remains the last commercial album to use this legendary equipment.

In early April 2005, the album was mastered at Abbey Road Studios by Steve Rooke (Franz Ferdinand, David Bowie and The Beatles).

Feedback:

'Piano-led rock' it says here. Which should bring to mind the Keane muppets. Now, get rid of that image, cos this is far better. These London based fellas are more akin to Crowded House, so yes, there are killer songs on here, full of summery pop joy. Much appreciated round here considering the present weather. A&R team, Rough Trade Shops

"I liked it - made me tap my feet quite a lot, and want to dance, it's full of energy. Did you say they had a record deal? I need to wait until they've got a bit more profile - then will get them on." Jamie Theakston, Heart 106.2

"Album of the Week" on Pulse Rated, August 2005

"A fantastic fresh and fun sound that just makes me want to jump about! These guys deserve their break" Lindsay Hooper, Pulse Rated FM

"A great new band reminded me of early Damian Rice particularly liked the last track Only you for me...." Tom Fenner Producer of Steve Wright, BBC Radio 2.

Artist of the Week on karmadownload.com, February 2006

"If you like your pop perfect, and your vocal lines instantly memorable, and your production values high, well look no further!" A&R team, karmadownload.com

"Alphaspin deliver gob smacking piano rock comparable to the likes of early Elton John and The Beatles, Abbey Road era. "A&R team, Halfmoon

"Positively smashing, and very catchy, debut by this British band! EXCELLENT!!!" A&R team, Kool Kat Musik
