BLUES: Delta Style, COUNTRY: Country Blues
Details:
Andy Squint was born in South Bend, Indiana. He was raised in Niles, Michigan, a crossroads between the R&B of Motown and the blues of Chicago. He learned percussion from his father who taught him the âBoogie Woogieâ at the age of six. As a teenager, Andy began to play the guitar. Eventually the sounds of the Mississippi Delta awakened his ear, and he started playing slide guitar. For ten years, Andy rambled across the Midwest to the Southwest. In his travels, he played solo guitar with the harp in the rack and occasionally performed with other musicians. On Old Route 66, Andy honed his harmonica tone in a band which included Arizona Blues Hall of Fame artist Hank Tomlin. He launched his fiery electric guitar sound in the âhideawayâ city of Cincinnati. In 2003, Andy settled down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he was a regular house musician at Tabbyâs Blues Box. He later played in the Baton Rouge Blues All Stars, featuring Louisiana Blues Hall of Fame artists, Oscar âHarpoâ Davis and James Johnson. In 2004, Andy performed at the Robert Johnson Heritage and Blues Festival in Greenwood, MS, as well as appearing with Grammy-nominated Henry Gray at Rocktoberfest in Baton Rouge. In 2005, the Andy Squint Blues Trio was formed, and in January 2006, he released his first CD, Goinâ to the Racetrack. Andy currently performs regionally with his band and as a featured guest with other blues artists.
