Anisa's voice has been described as soulful with bell-like clarity, and her folk/pop-oriented style is built around surging melodies. She has often been compared to artists such as Joni Mitchell, Dar Williams, and Sarah McLachlan.

Anisa's debut album, "How Can I Speak," offers songs that reach into the heart of the listener as they speak honestly about emotional, sometimes painfully raw, issues. Yet always with an underlying sense of overcoming life's struggles. As rich as her songs are in personal detail, they seem to speak to everyone. Her themes are universal and the story-telling quality of her lyrics invites nostalgia.


Anisa began her musical journey as a child who loved to write poetry and sing. She was raised in a musical family and was encouraged at an early age to develop her use of the written word as an outlet for expression. At age nine she began taking piano lessons. In her teens her father, a guitarist and songwriter, taught her some basic guitar chords. From there it was only a matter of time until her creative pursuits led her to write her first song, "Corner Man," at the age of fourteen.
