Details:
Israeli born musucian Anat Fort began her classical music education at the age of five and in her late teens started focusing on jazz. A summer session at Eastman school of music led to attending the jazz program at William Paterson College. While there, she started composing and continued playing different styles under the tutorage of people like Rufus Reid, Norman Simmons, Harold Mabern and Vic Juris. After graduating she moved to New York and studied classical composition with Harold Seletsky and improvisation with Paul Bley.

She has since then continued to link her mixed influences in different projects: her debut CD, "Peel" was self-produced in 1999. She then formed the Anat Fort trio with bassist Gary Wang on bass and Roland Schneider on drums, a collaboration which was voted "one of the best jazz shows of 2003" by "All About Jazz-NY". In 2000 she was commissioned to write "Tzohar" for string orchestra and improvising piano, and premiered the piece with the chamber orchestra Ramat-Gan in Israel. 2002 saw the commission of "Ktanot" for chamber group, which was premiered by the "Musica Nova" consort at the Tel-Aviv Biennial for contemporary music. She recently received a composer's grant from the Jerome foundation. Her new CD, featuring Paul Motian, Ed Schuller and Perry Robinson is scheduled to come out at the end of 2004.
