Impressions of Maximilian about the album
- It took me a lot of time to make it. First of all I spent almost six years of my life with a band without getting nothing more than a carnival of musicians in and out and only five songs ready! It was really a tremendous joke. It was very frustrating and I was almost at the point to stop making music because I couldnât find the help I needed from other musicians I used to play with. I still remember a drummer that became my worst nightmare; he wanted to write songs, he was never satisfied with mine, he wanted even a female singer at my place! Then I decided to quit everyone and began to write and record my music by myself with a MIDI equipment. Today you have the technology to do everything alone. I knew I would not have been able to have the fresh sound of a band on the record but it was a compromise I was forced to choose ââ¬Ëcause I was going nowhere and, at the age of 36, itâs really a drama for a musician. But I must say that I was surprised about the whole âdo it yourselfâ thing. It didnât sound that bad as I thought at the start and I realized I could do decent things in this way even if I have a lot to learn still.

But even if I was satisfied with drums, bass and keyboards parts I recorded I was not for the guitar parts. Then I thought about Tony. We work in the same place (Yes, unluckily music doesnât pay our bills still!) and when I asked him if he wanted to put his guitar on my songs he agreed. I was really happy about his way of playing and since the first recording sessions I knew I had found the musician Iâve been looking for years. Heâs really an outstanding guitar player and even if heâs a little disappointed about music business as I am, when it comes to play he does it with the energy and the power of an eighteen years old boy, but with the experience of years of application. I really couldnât ask for more and I do hope to continue to work with him in the future.

The title of the album, as many will soon understand, is an obvious tribute to Trent Reznor, (Nine Inch Nails, if you prefer) my favorite musician. His latest studio album would have had to have right the title I gave to mine, but for unknown reasons he dropped it just a few months before its release. This title suited perfectly with the spirit and the message of my own songs and so I proudly stole it. I know my limits, Iâm far from his genius and talent but as I was really impressed with his work over these past ten years and as he was really a great source of inspiration not only for the music, but even in my life I said âwell this sounds great! It really fits to my work and itâs a title too good to remain unused!â. There are obviously other bands Iâm influenced by, The Cure, U2 and Marillion to name a few.

The songs and the whole mood of the album itâs far from being positive. Youâd better look for Gwen Stefani if you search for pleasant and funny things. Songs reflect what my life is and, as it often happens, there is no happy ending nor a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. Itâs not a f***d cliché but a sign of the times. Our generation was called the âXâ one, we had nothing to believe in, nothing to fight for. Our government and our society are full of s**t and in most cases love is only heaven away and Iâm not an exception. So, if it has to be sincere, what can you expect from ars but disillusion, rage and pain? I still donât know if the whole thing will be understood but Iâm confident. Like Trent sung âCâmon, there has got to be someone who hasnât yet become so numb and succumbâ!.
