Since 1999, Santa Cruz, California's AUTOMATIC ANIMAL began specializing in hard driving rock infused with a bluesy intuition. The sound came without the overbearing new-metal angst or emo-laden torture prevalent in contemporary alternative rock. Automatic Animal's approach delivers well thought out hard rock that is both exciting and original. Definitely for fans of Rush, Tool, Queens of the Stone Age, Melvins, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Corrosion of Conformity and the early SubPop label bands.
Automatic Animal's professional sound and attitude is honed from touring the West Coast club circuit. The band currently is splitting time between San Francisco and Los Angeles scenes with recent tours in Arizona, Oregon and Washington. The bands' strong desire to branch out and expand their horizons is being met with a growing grass roots fan base. While AA avoids glam or gloss, they embrace musicianship and it shows in the reverence of their peers. For now, success is not calculated in the numbers of units sold, but in the right combination of elements to remain creative. Automatic Animal has that combination and the momentum to deliver.
The self-titled debut was recorded at Prairie Sun studios in Cotati, CA by producer/engineer Ralph Patlan and mastered at John Golden Mastering in Ventura, CA. This truly independent recording effort, solely financed by the band, is full of warm, rich tones and sonic experiences. Play it loud!
