Details:
40 Watt Hype puts it down.
Their fans hold them up.
The hip-hop catalysts of 40 Watt Hype bring a sound that blends Latin rhythms with soulful hooks into a commanding sound with tremendous crossover success. Often uttered in the same vain as The Roots, Black Eyed Peas and Ozomatli, 40 Watt Hype is on a mission to take the hip-hop experience to the next level: dropping an entire venue into a massive dance floor as horns and Latin percussion lock in behind two unstoppable emcees. A sound that could only be brewed in a diverse town like Fresno, Calif.; a sound that breathes its streets and clubs and inhales its cultureâa sound that spans the wide spectrum of music.
Itâs been a long way coming for a band that came from one of the poorest cities in the nation and went on to perform at the Sundance Film Festival with Ludacris, The Vans Warped Tour, The Roots, The Pharcyde, Fishbone, Zion I, 311, with Blackalicious and live on âThe Kevin and Bean Showâ (KROQ). 40 Watt Hype also performed at all home games for the San Francisco 49ers 2005-06 NFL season. These young players are not new to the game, with members having studied music in Paris, New York and Los Angeles.
40 Watt Hype puts it down.
Then they let the hype put it out.
The dominoes continue to fall. Billboard magazine selected 40 Watt Hype as one of the âTop 6 independent acts of the Southwest.â Complex magazine saysâHip-hop neophytes 40 Watt Hype have the underground buzzing.â Esquire magazine mentioned 40 Watt Hype as one of the â10 Things a Guy Should Know About Musicâ. They were runners up in the 2005 Independent Music Awards for best hip-hop song. MTV used the music of 40 Watt Hype for âReal World/Road Rules Challengeâ and the band also provided the main title song to the Warner Bros. Film âThe Adventures of Pluto Nash.â White meets Black meets Chicano meets âunityâ when rural-urban street talk is combined with songwriting.
