Dr. X was formed in Dayton, Ohio in 1995. They played their first show at Oregon Express on September 23, 1995. They performed both covers and originals, including an early version of DMHC Man. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Ken Coggeshall, bassist Bill Staudt, drummer Jay Stueve, and guitarist Keith Wood. After Jay's departure in February 1996, Jim McMahan stepped in. The band spent much of the next year writing songs and playing lots of shows to sparse crowds.

In March 1997, Jim left the band and was replaced by Steve Weller. This prompted a move towards a heavier sound, and audience size began to increase.

In the fall of 1997, Dr. X began production on their self-titled debut CD at Aztek Recording Studio in Dayton, Ohio. The band signed with J-Bird Records in June 1998, coinciding with the release of their first CD. Their CD Release Party was a huge success; and this, along with an outstanding performance at the 1998 WTUE/Sanctuary Halloween Show thrust Dr. X into the forefront of the local music scene. Crowds at Dr. X shows began to grow larger.

In February 1999, Keith Wood parted company with Dr. X and was replaced by current guitarist Tom Reade, which brought another demention to the band's song writing, with all the members becoming more involved in the creative process.

Dr. X released a limited edition 3-song sampler entitled Things To Come on Halloween 1999, selling 65 of the 100 run of discs at the first show.

In August 2000, Steve Weller departed the band and was replaced by current drummer Greg Wiedemann. The band immediately set about writing more material and performing live extensively throughout the rest of the year.

In January of 2001 Dr. X began what was to be the lengthy process of recording their second full length CD. After 18 months of recording, mixing, mastering, designing and manufacturing, with a few technical difficulties and setbacks, the band released "Struggle", of which one local journalist said is "one of the best albums to hit the shelves lately", on June 1st of 2002. The subsequent CD release party at BoJangle's night club was a huge success, and saw the band punctuate it's 90 minute set with an ambitious rendition of the title track "Struggle."

Seeing ever increasing merchandise and CD sales, the band is enjoying entusiastic airplay from the local music shows on local radio stations. Dr. X continues to play club gigs in steady rotation to capacity crowds and, keeping their sights set on the future, is hard at work writing new material.

Dr. X has opened for such national acts as Jason Bonham, Great White, Molly Hatchet, Brian Howe of Bad Company, & Skid Row and with their energetic live performances and sizeable, loyal following, with over 300 subscribers to their mailing list and 10,000 plus visitors to their website since May of 2000, they have begun to attract regional attention from clubs, promoters, record labels, and radio stations from Des Moines, Indianapolis, Lexington, and New York City.
