Details:
DrumUrge's self titled debut CD is a journey using the groups' slant on "percussion discussion" as a guide. The first tune "Kakilambe" is a high energy African harvest rhythm that twists and turns through solos and a section that sounds like the boiler is about to explode ! "Feel This" is a discussion between Congas and African Ashiko drum supported by a funky groove on tuned Bass drums. "The Ol' Five Seven" is an extended travel tour utilizing a 22 beat cycle with guest appearances from African Talking drum, Toy Bongos, and Moroccan Bhendir. "Neutral Zone" has a dark, "beginning of the world" kind of feel with a solo section played on graduated aluminum containers. "Stickling" was described as sounding like the sound track to a PBS documentary on the secret life of fire ants. "M'bira" uses the Zimbabwean instrument known in the states as "thumb piano" and has a calming, around the fire at night feel. "Funga" is a welcome march that is shot out of three large Djembe drums like a cannon. "Flip It" is a goofy rollick exploring body percussions and vocals...just flip it.

This disc was recorded digitally using a combination of close up and room mic-ing. It was mixed down and edited digitally using Pro-Tools....and sounds really nice !
