Love Above All includes many of Sam's favorite compositions, most of which have entered the jam session tradition. Some of the O'Hurley's General Store Band play on the title cut, which also includes an ethereal and beautiful vocalization by Madeline MacNeil. Sheet music for all the tunes can be found in the Rizzetta tune books available at https://www.tradebit.com.
Sam has been nominated for a National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship for lifetime achievement in the arts. His many innovations helped create the modern hammer dulcimer, and his handmade instruments have been exhibited by the Smithsonian Institution, the National Folk Festival, the West Virginia Cultural Center, and featured in Fine Woodworking Magazine.
