From Jason: "Hugh & I approached this recording as a set piece; we wanted to make an album's worth of material that sounded homogenous. Hugh has many influences & talents but my approach to making music is much more standard, so I wanted to rein him in a little. He would often have a song last for 5 or 6 minutes and I edited these track times down and got him to put structure on his songs. I'm listed as co-writer, but my job was more to do with arranging. I was so pleased my friend Rob Corbet, percussionist, was able to help us out. He, like Hugh, is an instinctive musician. I got the chance to play drums, bass & lead guitar on one or two tracks, which was sheer indulgence and enormous fun. It was a rare treat to get to rehearse and ultimately record these songs with Hugh; he is one of the few musicians I've played with who has an innate musical talent. He can be erratic at times, but when he's in full flow, it's a pleasure to hear his creativity & the sounds he makes. He's also one of the best harmonica players I've ever heard. I'm proud of 'Slopey' - low budget recording but high quality material."
