Details:
Returning to Clubhouse Studios in their hometown of Duluth, MN, Batteries set about making their second record in the winter of 2009. The dark garage pop of their debut, That Great Grandsuck of the Sea was labeled by The Duluth Budgeteer as one of the Top 10 records of the Northland in 2007, a short list that includes the likes of Cloud Cult, Low, and Charlie Parr. On Your So Excited, the bandâs sound is crystallized into a diverse 9 song collection that combines compact, stomping pop songs with ambient 60âs flavored textures. A mix of distant, cold guitars with splashes of haunted house-like organ provide the backdrop for singer Dave Frankenfeldâs tempered croon. Youâre So Excited goes in plenty of directions in its 24 minutes, from the sedated haze of âOutnumberedâ, to the bracing loneliness on âDryâ, or âDirty Dogsâ, to the menacing groove of âWeathervaneâ, the album borrows sounds from both lo-fi fuzz pop and 60âs garage music. The album was put together by a collection of Duluth music veterans whose past and current projects include: Both, Puddle Wonderful, The State Champs, Devilâs Flying Machine (w/ Charlie Parr), Haley Bonar, Sleepfarmer, The Surfactants, and Uptown Boys.
