Details:
Doteen is a guitarist singer-songwriter. Born into a Spanish-Irish home, he was surrounded by the melodies of Irish reels and Flamenco from the start. His older brother was also blasting songs by Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd and Thin Lizzy. Doteen's Dad was in the military so he traveled quite a bit and lived in different countries. Being able to experience other cultures was a priceless gift that further opened his eyes and his heart. Doteen has been writing songs since 1993. He played guitar in his first band when he was a senior in high school and continued to with several college bands until ultimately becoming dissatisfied and disillusioned with band mates' lack of enthusiasm toward writing music. So, in 1995, he bought a 4-track recorder and began to record his own songs. Writing and recording would become a refuge, a place to hide out from the dullness and distractions of the "hip" social scene. Since then, Doteen has played numerous songwriter spotlights, jammed on downtown streets, played and sang for the homeless, entertained the mentally ill, school kids, and stray dogs. His audience is as diverse as his music. Doteen mainly writes songs from personal experience but is also inspired by literary giants such as Mark Twain, Charles Bukowski, and Oscar Wilde. In early 2000, Doteen won Songwriter's Monthly lyricist award "Words By" for his song "Laughing at the Sun"", a much loved children's anthem inspired by kindergarteners' imaginations. In early 2001, he was chosen as "Featured Spotlight Artist of the Week" several times at 92.5 FM WQYZ (Ocean Springs, MS) for his song "Betterday", a regularly played favorite at the station. In early 2003, Doteen finally released his second self-produced CD, ""Carve Me A Moon"", which is influenced by the road, forgotten playgrounds, space hippie cosmic lunacy, Peapod Blues, runaway dogs, Eire, Margaret Scanlon, ""The Hill"", Delta Bluesmen, Salvador Dali, friendship, CSX trains and his ongoing and tumultuous love affair with a certain Mississippi Moon Goddess.
