Power-pop power trio -- Es Very Powerful.
5 MP3 Songs
ROCK: 60's Rock, POP: British Pop
Details:
The Doll Test is a Seattle rock band formed in 2005, but itâs really much older.
The actual test helped desegregate public schools in the 1950s. Although the band members had nothing to do with that, they liked the story. So the trio took the name after performing and recording together for about a decade in power-pop band The Model Rockets.
When that group ran out of steam, Scott Sutherland, Boyd Remillard and Graham Black eventually decided they were still hot to play Sutherlandâs rock songs. Seattle music fans have been digginâ those songs since he formed the band Chemistry Set back when we were all smaller.
The Doll Testâs first release, the 5-song collection âGasoline and Banks,â appeared in August '06. It begins with the potent title song, followed by âSings Without Sound,â a driving, mid-tempo groove featuring producer Johnny Sangster on organ. The spooky âScared Out of Your Mindâ is third. Sounding a bit like The Church, the group then sings about their home in âRains All The Time.â The rocker âWhole Lotta Nothinââ concludes the euphonious debut.
A full-length recording is coming next year. The group has been playing select local shows in recent months and can be expected to continue in the days ahead. The members are busy with other groups as well.
Singer and guitarist Sutherland plays with Llama and the Paul Lynde Fanclub. His playing is all over new releases by those outstanding bands. Remillard currently plays bass in Ruston Mire and sits in with Ruby Dee and the Snakehandlers. Black drums with Roy Loneyâs band, the Longshots.
