Details:
Singer/songwriter Daniel Strickland was born in the blue-collar bay town of Freeport, Texas. Although born in Texas he bounced back and forth, from the TX to South Carolina for most of his youth. Eventually Strick's parents and two brothers settled SC, where Strick spent most of his motivating teenage years. SC is definitely the place Strick calls home. So that's the connection to the South. However, Strick's connection with music dates back to his youth. His parents are a very musical, dancing, and celebrating type of people. According to Strick's mother, his father would sing him songs when he was still in the cradle. And as early as age 6, Strick remembers dancing and singing along side his mother while they watched Soul Train every Saturday morning, He has fantasized about performing on stage and making people smile and dance to his own music ever since. His childhood musical influences include The Drifters, Al Green, Hank Williams, Michael Jackson, and Billy Idol. Strick is a fan of and appreciates various music from blues, rock, soul, folk, hip-hop and jazz. At age 14 he realized his true passion to create original music, without a doubt music is what he felt at home with. Thanks to love, heartbreak, gowing pains, and good times Strick was able to feel something very true to himself in the music of artists like Al Green, Smokey Robinson, Babyface, Otis Redding, and Outkast, to name a few. Strick's dreams of becoming a successful recording artist were put on hold as a teenager, for various reasons. Strick was somewhat of a juvenile delinquent, and strayed off course for a while. But as an adult he grew out of youthful habits. Then decided to pursue his dream relentlessly, starting with amateur contests, Apollo night, stage plays etc., and eventually hooking up with his musical counterpart and production genius Justin Smith. With their collaboration of production, song writing, and style, they've pioneered a NEW Genre, a genre all their own...
"THE GENRE" for the 21rst Century, "FOLK-HOP"...
