Details:
Veteran Boston singer/songwriter Digney Fignus (remember "Girl with the Curious Hand"?) is at it again with a foot stompin', get-on-your-feet dancing new release called TROUBLE ON THE LEVEE. It's a story of love, lust, voodoo, moonshine, gangsters, and cheatin' fools. It takes place in 1927 New Orleans, the first time the levee broke.

Featuring twelve original songs, it tells the story of Johnnie Boudreaux -- how a man "too good lookin' for his own good" could live himself to death and still manage a laugh at his own funeral.

The project originated in the summer of 2004 when Fignus met legendary drummer Dave Mattacks, (Fairport Convention, Jethro Tull, Paul McCartney), at the National Folk Festival in Bangor, Maine. They started recording in December 2004 and the characters in the songs sprang to life on their own, telling the story of Johnnie Boudreaux and his adventures on the river. When the title track âTrouble on the Leveeâ was originally recorded (in May 2005), Fignus did not think that people would believe that a levee could actually break and wash over New Orleans. But in an eerie coincidence, truth imitated fiction when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city in the summer of 2005.

Both the production and musicianship on the record are top-notch. It just hits a groove and runs with it the whole way through. The tracks are mixed beautifully and infused with energy and infectious spontaneity. The CD comes with a twelve-page booklet that tells the story of the "Cajun Opera" so listeners can follow along.

Once again Fignus has reinvented his dance-inspiring music. A new-wave popster and former member of the punk rock group Spikes, he has convincingly shifted his melodic knack to a more acoustic rootsy feel. Fignus has been making music since the â80s when his MTV hit The Girl with the Curious Hand was released on Columbia Records. In the â90s his song Bostontown won songwriting accolades from both mainstream radio and country fans who nominated it for several awards.

Currently playing with an all-star lineup, Fignus will debut the official Trouble on the Levee CD release on March 15, 2006 at 9 p.m. at the Burren in Davis Square Somerville, MA.
