DeadBeats?

Well, DeadBeats is a groupâ¦No. âDeadBeatsâ is many kinds of groups. Some people refer to them as DeadBeats. They rather adopted the name as a post modern blend of new jack rhyme meter and a morbid disorderly fusion entailing progressive hip hop accompanied by the colder elements of the digital world of sound that magnifies poetry to its most existential binary as self proclaimed vocal percussionists.

DeadBeats are like the 70âs version of Terrance L. Jackson in the year 3147, you know? They are Avantguardians; they are progressive beat headsâ¦. itâs like abstract poetry over horror-esque beats that bump with sultry ambianceâ¦but hey kids, let's not forget the experimental curve.

Now, deriving from Salt Lake City, it comes to many as a surprise when they hear the nascent sounds of DeadBeats. The air is thinner here, so what you have is light hearted, light headed, nosebleed music with no room for interpreation. Hate them? or love them? regardless, DeadBeats will keep making albums into their wrinkled years.

DeadBeats have shared the stage with such acts as Swollen Members, Aceyalone, MURS & Scarub (of Living Legends), Jerneye, Crown City Rockers, Pep-Love, DJ Lex & Opio ( of Hieroglyphics, Souls of Mischief), Sweatshop Union, P.O.S. (of Rhymesayers), Sims & Mac Lethal (of Doomtree), GURU (of Gangstarr), Zion I, Subtle (Lex Records) among various others.

SL City Weekly...pre-record release review:
Jan. 12, 2006

"Tired of over sampled hip-hop tracks a la Puff Daddy, Puffy, Diddy, Puffy Charms or whatever he's called these days? Try DeadBeats, local lyricists whose mic skills rock a lo-fi backdrop. Lokal, Jest, and Mimic draw on a wide range of influences, from Blind Melon and Ministry to Aceyalone and Ghostface Killah but boil them down to a nice, straightforward sound that's neither slick nor cheap. Tnoight, check them out live - then take home a copy of Recycled Obituaries and theank God it doesn't feature any references to Sting or Biggie." -Bill Frost (SL City Weekly)

Short but sweet Recycled Obituaries review:
Jan. 26, 2006

âOver eerie-deep beats, DJ Shanty and the three DeadBeats (Lokal, Jest and Mimic) let loose a litany of lyrical labyrnths spiraling ever downward into the heart of hip-hop darkness. Not a party album, but one helluva tripâ. -Bill Frost (SLCity Weekly) Jan. 26, 2006
