Stop the press! Def Poets Society have released their 3rd full length album, Coas Gawdz: Pacific Ocean Locstarz. This 20 track collection of hard west coast hip hop is constructed from rough cut samples, liquid smooth synths and enough low end to shake the ass off a Cadillac. Once again, Def Poets Societyâs velvet delivery is balanced with enough hard edge to cater to the party people as well as the headphone hip hop heads. Prominent turntableism, live instrumentation and many guest appearances from top Vancouver artists give this album enough depth to stand out in what can be known as an oversaturated genre.
Def Poets Society: On the grind since â99. These cats are no strangers to the independent music push, and are seasoned when it comes to their live performance. Since the release of their last album, Def Poets Society have shared stages with the likes of : The Beatnuts, Dogg Pound, Classified, Maestro Fresh Wes, Swollen Members, Jurassic 5, Mix Master Mike, Kardinal Offishall, Fugazi, Matthew Good, Bif Naked, as well as numerous other aspiring local acts.
This crew is 100 self produced, all three frontmen are trained in audio production. Bones, P. Shiggz, and Mic Stroker each carry a distinct style, which allows the listener to identify them each in their own element. When the trio comes together with rhymes, it makes for a âpremium blend.â
With this being the third time around, these boys have perfected their trade. Seven years of skill development is clearly evident as this is easily their best work to date.
