Singer-guitarist Chris Karn and his compatriots Jesse Nason (keys/vocals), Dicki Fliszar (drums/vocals) and Luke Agajanian (bass/vocals) signed to Atlantic Records, had a successful outing opening for Michelle Branch in fall 2003, and then recorded their debut album, Battle of Life, with Grammy winner John Shanks and Chris Lord-Alge. The lead track and single "Belong" was given 2 weeks to radio, getting #1 phone requests in Portland, Oregon, before their relationship with the label soured from weird, internal record-company politics.
