Love at First Sight
a CD of original songs by Michael Lydon and the East Village's best-loved band.
Best known for his books on pop music--Rock Folk, Boogie Lightning, and recently, Ray Charles: Man and Music--and for co-founding Rolling Stone, Boston-born Michael Lydon is also a singer/songwriter with a unique lyrical vision.
Lydon's easy going brand of "pop jazz," everything from ballads and bossas to blues and gospel, blends Manhattan gloss with West Coast cool to create the perfect vehicle for his thoughtful songs.
Happy or sad, romantic or poignant, Michael Lydon's "music with a smile" is people-pleasing music with universal appeal.
As a writer on music, Lydon met and wrote about dozens of music greats from Lennon and McCartney, Jagger-Richards, Ella Fitzgerald, and Count Basie, to Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin and Janis Joplin. "Their music opened me up to gorgeous sounds and challenging ideas," says Lydon. "Now, in every note I play, I try to sum up all I've heard and send it back as me to anyone who'll listen. When I get back silly grins and couples dancing to my beat and singing in on the chorus, I'm in heaven."
Love at First Sight, his first CD, was produced by Ellen Mandel, a busy singer-pianist-composer as well as Lydon's longtime partner.
