FOLK: Modern Folk, FOLK: Folk Pop
Details:
the Songwriter and Musician
Lara Herscovitch is a unique and charismatic emerging singer and songwriter: Her original music is a skillful blend of acoustic/folk, pop, and world styles. Her songs are smart, poetic and witty, merging soulful melodies with âperfect wordcraftingâ (New Haven Advocate) and âkeen intelligenceâ (Ear Candy). She is âa remarkable performerâ (WSHU), sings with a voice âclear and smooth like expensive liquorâ (Northeast Performer), and whether âcomplemented by her band or going solo, Lara charms her audience with warmth and humorâ (Rhapsody In Brew). Always engaging with a wide variety of audiences, she is a member of the Performing Artist rosters New England Foundation for the Arts and CT Commission on Culture & Tourism.
To date Lara has three albums to her credit, Juror Number 13 (2006), There (2002), and Sin Tierra (2000). âHerscovitch is going in the right directionâ (Rambles) with her âgreat and refreshing soundâ (Acoustic Café) â in sum, she is âone hell of a findâ (New Haven Advocate).
[EPK at SonicBids.com/LaraHerscovitch.]
âHerscovitch is polished and cool, and swings convincingly from moody to upbeat, in English and Spanishâ (Record-Journal). Her songs cover a wide range of topics from personal to global/sociological. No matter which of her songs or albums you hear, âthe more you listen, the more you will like what she doesâ (Green Man Review); it is âpure musical poetryâ (The [CT shoreline] Courier).
the Person
Lara was raised in New York and lives in Connecticut. She narrowly escaped attending law school, and was trained instead as a macro social worker. She has worked in the U.S., Latin America, Africa, and Asia, on behalf of disadvantaged individuals â focusing on education, early childhood and youth development, community development, human services, and the environment. Designed as a socially responsible company in keeping with her spirit, Herscovitchâs la Rama Records (âthe branchâ) uses recycled products and donates 10 of CD sales to nonprofit environmental organizations.
Where Sheâs Been
âHerscovitch is doing a fine job of building up a rabid fanbaseâ (smother.net) â she has played at Northeast U.S venues including: (NY/NYC/NJ) the Towne Crier, Kavehaz, the C-Note, Baggot Inn, Lounge at Triad Theater, Maxwellâs (NJ Songwriters in the Round), Irvington Town Hall Theatre and Circle of Friends Coffeehouse (with Tribes Hill), Acoustic Live! showcases at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and Northeast Regional Folk Alliance conference, (CT) Acoustic Café, International Festival of Arts & Ideas, New Haven Folk Festival and other New Haven Folk Alliance shows, Music for a Change at the University of Hartford, University of New Haven, Western Connecticut State University, Housatonic Community College, First Nights in Hartford and New Haven, and (RI/VT/MA) Bishopâs Lounge, Green Room, River Garden, Java Babas, and Radio Bean.
She has opened for John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler, Vance Gilbert, Ellis Paul, Aztec Two-Step, Eric Anderson, and David Roth, and has shared the stage with Sloan Wainwright, Mustardâs Retreat, and Radoslav Lorkovic, among many others.
