"Jazz meets techno" Electric jazzy chill-out vocals with a Brazilian vibe
9 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Bossa Nova, JAZZ: Smooth Jazz
Details:
Debut âjazz meets technoâ CD by singer/songwriter Lisa Andrea Torres entitled âThe Seventh Senseâ, is innovative and rhythmic offering a fresh take on classics like Burt Bacharachâs âThe Look of Loveâ, Brazilian composer Jorge Benjorâs âMas Que Nadaâ, and Milton Nascimentoâs âNada Será Como Antesâ. Accompanied by original compositions, this album offers enough diversity and musicianship to entice and satisfy any ear!
Expressing warmth and versatility, her vocal style and musical arrangements combine many elements of contemporary jazz and pop, with Brazilian bossa nova and samba, cleverly fused by light âchill-outâ electronic drum tracks.
A San Francisco Bay Area native based part-time in Miami, Lisa has been performing in the US, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Mexico, and Brazil for the past 19 years part of which were spent living in Rio and São Paulo.
While studying music at San Francisco State University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, she was fortunate to have begun performing early on with some of the most talented and creative jazz and bossa nova trios and quartets in the Bay Area, appearing regularly at local nightclubs, restaurants and hotels while gradually building an extensive repertoire in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
The late Merrill Hoover arranger, and premiere accompanist for singers such as Anita OâDay, Ernestine Anderson, and Chris Connor to name a few; became Lisaâs first vocal coach and mentor enabling her to build a solid jazz repertoire while instilling the essential qualities that makes a great jazz performer. Developing strong roots in straight-ahead jazz, Lisa later continued working with Merrill, appearing at many venues around the Bay Area, with trios that included such jazz heavyweightâs such as Harold Jones drummer for Sarah Vaughn, Donald Bailey, saxophonist Benny Miller, and bassists Jeff Chambers and John Goodman.
She later went on to continue her learning and experience attributing natural style and tasteful repertoire in Bossa Nova by working with legendary Brazilian pianist Marcos Silva whose many recordings and concerts with icons Flora Purim and Aierto Moreira are well-known among mainstream and Brazilian jazz fans. Recording and performing live with world-class drummer Celso Alberti, bassist Gary Brown, and guitarist Ricardo Peixoto helped strengthen Lisaâs fundamental Brazilian âswingâ before moving to Brazil to study, perform, and explore its many diverse musical rhythms and styles.
