Details:
DIRTY LINEN MAGAZINE says this Native Style flute playing remains true to the tradition from which it came. Laurianne Fiorentino and Michael Kott walked into a studio in Nashville one night and came out at 3am with this recording - as is. It was not intended to be a formal release, it was an experiment. Six years after the the recording onto a cassette tape, Laurianne remastered and digitalized the entire session and released it. It is not slick or programmed or manipulated for audience response. This a a real experience caught candidly and purely. Four tracks are included on the documantary film "Trail of the Painted Ponies" narrated by Ali Mac Graw. The flutes are handcrafted in the Dakota Sioux style and are pentatonically tuned incorporating the East Indian Chakra system as a reference point. The effect is a haunting, deep, hollow tone reminiscent of Japanese shakuhachi flutes. Michael Kott is an experimental electric cellist with his own CD releases. He has played with well known artists such as the Taos, NM Indian Robert Mirabal, violinist Bill Munroe, and the Wooten Brothers of Bela Fleck notoriety. The cello is plucked, tapped, strummed and bowed and is processed into a rich textural sonic environment. Together, Laurianne and Michael have that rare nack of playing in sympatico - together yet individully defined. This is not a light and fluffy recording - it is one to sink into and ride.
