Lanny Isis: The meaning of life

Do what you really want - but give it all you've got.
The singer/songwriter Lanny Isis is living his dream. A mini biography.

"The meaning of life is just one thing". This is one line coming out of Lanny's pen. "What it is, needs to be discovered by everyone individually since it is different for every one of us", is Lanny's only possible answer.
The only thing that matters: Find your path and don't stop until you've reached your destination. Live your dream, don't dream your life.

Lanny's path began on January 23rd 1975 in Carinthia, Austria. His first love was in sports and with his unique determination and tenacity he soon would reach the limelight in each discipline: First as a young soccer player, later as an aspiring hockey talent. His biggest successes though he would celebrate in Badminton. 7 national titles and the participation in the world championships 1992 are a testament to his talent and the unbreakable desire to succeed.

The real passion.
He yet had to discover it. At the age of 12, Lanny acquired his first guitar trading in his game computer and self-taught himself to play in endless hours of practicing. The piano in his parent's living room would soon be his next victim. Four years later he discovered his talent as a singer and songwriter and it wasn't before long when he founded "Desire", his first band. The passion was followed by "Slippin' Wet", graduation from the HTL in Klagenfurt, a drafting call by the Austrian Army and a short intermezzo at the University of Klagenfurt, which almost made him tumble onto too straight a path.

But Lanny would not be Lanny, had he not clung on to his aspirations and dreams. He enrolled for Jazz singing at the Conservatory of Vienna and perfected his powerful and captivating vocal technique. In 1998 he finally got his first break with the Pop/Rock band Isis Noreia which he founded and Co-managed. The band recorded their first album in New York City and the first single release "Bombshell" (Words: Lanny Isis, Music: Isis Noreia), won several awards from the renowned European Music Magazine "Soundcheck". Best Vocal Performance, Best Song, Best Arrangement, Best Band.

It was time to set a different course. For Lanny there was not much to think about. Being a musician at heart and in his soul, having learned to walk his own way at an early age, he wanted to find out if he could take on the challenge of all challenges. New York City. "If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere". Frankie's most famous line has been Lanny's ubiquitous mantra since then. His other band members then decided that they were not to keen on finding out what they were made of and that they were not ready to leave the safe haven of home. The bandleader, front man and songwriter of Isis Noreia turned into solo act Lanny Isis, who took off with his guitar, a backpack and a suitcase full of dreams to take his bite off the big Apple.

Still in his freshman year in NYC, he released his first solo album Lanny Isis "IF". To take a bite of the big apple turned out to be a more difficult task, since it was hard to find a place to take a bite. So Lanny began digging his way into the music scene and started playing as many local venues as he could, promoting himself, trying to survive and on top of that being creative and working on new songs.

Born to play live.
In 2002 Lanny released his album "Unplugged Sessions" including 12 original songs that he had written, arranged, performed and recorded. Among them the emotional ballad "A prayer for the dying", which he wrote one day after the September 11th attacks on his beloved New York, which he had to witness from the pier by his studio in Brooklyn. Another song is "Insecure", in which he vocally takes his style to a new dimension, and of course the New York Anthem "A beautiful Day (In New York City)" which has mesmerized audiences in New York as well as on the other side of the ocean. Even ASCAP has recognized this album and presented Lanny the ASCAP Popular Award 2002.

Lanny is a thoroughbred musician, meaning that his recordings are excellent, but his live shows are an even greater experience. Every ounce of energy goes into his performance that includes originals and a mix of eclectic covers like "With or without you" or "Living on a prayer", performed with a fresh and new touch. His shows are never short with encores, since he himself enjoys performing obviously the most. His voice is his best instrument: wild and precise, expressive, emotional - and always on pitch.

It's been 7 1/2 years now since Lanny moved to New York and he is still making it in the city that never sleeps. In 2004 his efforts were rewarded with a tour on the exclusive island of St. Barth in the Caribbean's, where he shared the stage with US Superstar Jimmy Buffet.
