This heterogeneous quintet proposes a pulsating and alive music, alternating tension and energy with moments of pure lyricism. A fresh recording, rich of rhythmic and melodic ideas that give good hopes about the new directions that Jazz is taking.

Details:
âSometimes, when it is real and you are lucky (or unlucky, it dependsâ¦) enough, it makes you face sides of yourself that, although familiar, you usually donât deal with in such a magnified fashion. It might be severe at times but probably thatâs the deepest reason why we are still taking it with us.
In some way Music is a memento.â

Being a drummer and a composer Paolo Lattanzi lived his two passions as two separated entities for years: working mainly as a performer and devoting the rest of his creative energies to composing and arranging.
When he finally put a band together with the sole purpose of performing his original tunes it ended up to be quite a success. The audience enjoyed the music and showed appreciation, enthusiasm and support: a sign that the time for joining his two âmusical personalitiesâ had come.
Excited by that success Paolo intensified his work, composed more and started to think of forming a stable band. The process took all the summer 2005. Over that time he also took the chance to explore the beautiful cities of London and Paris, hanging out in jazz clubs and speaking to local musicians and club owners. He was looking for more perspectives, more influences and some inspirationâ¦
When he came back to Boston, Paolo had an idea to pursue and after a few bumps along the way got the musicians he needed. He was looking for something in particular and he found it: a good mix of different backgrounds formed by versatile musicians willing to interact in a way that could let the music flow in any direction.
He met Aurelien first and was immediately impressed of his proficiency on the guitar, his rhythmic phrasing and the variety of styles he can play.
Nikolay and Pau came shortly after: the excitement in Nikolayâs playing, amazing technique and creative approach and Pauâs âharmonic solutionsâ, warm, gentle feel and remarkable touch on the piano would have worked perfectly for the music in âNight Dancersâ.
Paolo remembered about Marco from his first days at Berklee College of Music in 2002. Such a gifted bassist, solid when working to support the group and very melodic and expressive when soloing, was the best choice for a band that wanted to stretch and take the music âwherever it wanted to goâ: the Paolo Lattanzi Group was finally formed.
On November 13th, 2005 they hit the studio and âNight Dancersâ finally became a reality.
The CD has been released by jazz label Silta Records in late July 2006.
The liner notes in the cd booklet are written by two great jazz (and beyond) masters:
"I am impressed with the way the individual talents of the five musicians are blended together to create a group sound as they complete the journey of each of the tunes. They listen to each other and each episode follows in organic continuity with the one before it, whether it be phrase to phrase or from soloist to soloist. Nikolay Moiseenko (saxes) and Aurelien Budynek (guitars) are an exhilarating âfront lineâ [...] Pau Terol (Piano) and Marco Panascia (bass) are also great improvisers and provide a consistent and energetic comping foundation throughout the CD. Paolo Lattanzi, the composer of these tunes, provides a unique time ride accompaniment as the drummer. [...] Paolo knows what he wants and what rhythmic color choices will best support his melodic/harmonic ideas and he delivers the drum part with inspired confidence."

(Excerpts from the CD booklet)
"It's the first album in my recent memory which begins by plunging immediately into a deep swinging groove but relaxed as hell. Smooth. Very nice move [...] These people love music. Can you hear it? [...] That's what Night Dancers is doing: releasing the music a little at a time to us⦠Killer! There are no weak links! [...] Dare I say the pacing and arranging border on brilliant! [...] Metric modulation. I have been quitely playing and loving metric modulation since my work in 1977 with Brand X (plus Tom Pierson, Aydin Esen, Wayne Shorter), Gil Evans, Delmar Brown and Gary Chaffee. Youâve got to love it. Hopefully with people like Sting helping introduce some of it to the public and people like Paolo Lattanzi Group keeping metric modulation alive in jazz, we'll have our better world right here as we listen to Night Dancers."
