personal and introspective solo piano
9 MP3 Songs
JAZZ: Smooth Jazz, JAZZ: Free Jazz
Details:
Once in a while, for no particular reason, I believe I look at the connections between things rather than the things themselves. These moments are usually quite calming, and this cd was done from that frame of mind.
Choral groups, oboe, and 12 years of classical piano formed my roots in music. In high school, listening to Pete Jolly (my hero) exposed me to the world of jazz piano. Then, I had the good fortune of playing in a quartet for three years with Joe Bratton, a lyrical alto sax and flute player who through some quirk of fate had abruptly left Jimmy Dorsey's band and ended up in my hometown of Fargo, North Dakota.
After moving to San Francisco, playing piano became a means of stepping back from the fizz of a life of architecture and urban design. Another stroke of good fortune happened when Susan Muscarella opened her Jazzschool in Berkeley, with great instructors from throughout the Bay Area.. Classes and concerts there expanded my awareness and renewed my interest in solo piano performance.
I hope you find these sounds to be an enjoyable backdrop to your musings and conversations.
