hello my name is lillian d hamlin and i was born in los angeles, california. i've been writing songs and playing guitar since i was 13 years old. i first was caught by music, when i was 8 years old. while raking leaves and watering the trees in the backyard on weekends, i used to keep a beat-up am radio on a dried out apricot tree. i was listening to a radio station the mighty 690 when i heard toto playing "roseanna". after that i started recording on an ancient cassette player in different speeds.
at the age of thirteen my dad bought me a replica of a red flying v and i didn't play it too much because i didn't have an amp and to be honest, it intimidated me. i played along with vinyl records like kiss, the cult, and other types of music.
all around me where i used to live, i befriended people in bands and always listened to different kinds of stuff. i stuck to the guitar and began singing in collaborations with a few friends in garages or on my own. my dad would always bring me different pedals so i spent a few summers
experimenting with different sounds and even tried to start an all girl band that got their songs stolen from some of their boyfriends from down the street.
so here i am into acoustic rock, folk whatever you want to call it. i personally don't like labels, but it's unavoidable. all i wanna do is make music. if people like good, if not well i'll still do what i do because it's entertaining.
i like joni mitchell, sheryl crowe, lucinda williams, kate bush, the jefferson airplane, elliott smith, john prine, to name a few. i've broken my hand twice before and i still play even if it makes me cry. i'm doing this because it's what i do and the image thing to me is a crock, but the image never stands the test of time. at least i don't think so. well, that's all i have to say, because i'm me and i'm boxing myself in and all i wanna do is stay lillian. mmmk. xo lilham
