Details:
Irish born Singer songwriter Linda Coogan, came from a non musical family, but it didn't seem to phase her. In her late teens she picked up a guitar and went on her way. Joining forces with a school friend Eoin (her bassist and intrumentalist today) she began putting pen to paper to music. Lindas influences such as Guns and Roses, Tom Waits, The Carpenters, Folk music and Traditional irish music, are clearly seen in her own songs. However a certain originality exists between her own.

Eager to learn about the instruments she plays, when Linda finished school she went to work in Paul Doyles Musical instrument workshop in Galway. This is where she learnt the construction and theory behind stringed instruments. The bouzouki and electric guitar played on the album are custom handmade instruments. Not only is Linda a talented musician but a qualified craftsperson and artist. For two years she mixed work with pleasure, untill playing music overcame making musical instruments.

So after allot of thought she decided to record her debut album. Live. She wanted it all recrded live, to maintain a certain rawness and realness to it. " I didn't want any flashy production on my first album, I want to give the people me. Just me. What I am about without any falseness. Or special effects. So I produced it myself, and recorded it all in one big live room."

Linda is set to release her debut album very soon. This month sees Linda fulfilling her musical path. Already hailed as one of the top Irish artists, this lady is set to take the US by storm, a very mild storm, next summer. Having a number of US dates to be confirmed, and UK dates that she has just confirmed , it will be full steam ahead for the sultry vocalist.

Starting her UK an Ireland tour this Friday with the release of her new album "holding back", there is little holding back for this lady as she has already appeared on numerous radio and pod stations, enjoying the banter and singing a few soothing numbers for the listeners. Earlier in July, Linda appeared on GCN's special edition magazine as one of their top 11 featured Irish acts this month. As part of the special edition mag, Last December , the hit song taken form her album was one of the free downloadables. (see www.gcn.ie for more details.)

August sees Linda embarking on her first solo promo tour. When asked how it was all fairing for her, Linda gives us some answers..."Well it has all happened rather fast and furiously really, allot of hard work in toll too, I am self managed and funded so I have control of things so far. I have learnt a lot in the past few weeks, especially, who the nice folk are and who the decent folk are, the difference between them. One has to be cautious about who's likely to screw you over and who isn't. The music business is a harsh one, but a very rewarding one overall ; when you get the timing right. However the offers are coming in but I'll stick to myself for the time being, learn the ropes for myself. I am really looking forward to travelling with my music, a solo tour is a new prospect for me, it'll be strange not having the lads backing me on stage all the time but it's grow up time for me. I am so eager to hit the states, they have really been very supportive to me over these past few months, through my space and other internet forums and sites. So hopefully it'll all go well. It will go well!!"

You can visit Lindaâs website www.lindacoogan.com and join her mailing list and also visit www.myspace.com/lindacoogan and check out how well sheâs doing! In less than one month on myspace she has had over 4000 hits!!!

Log on and listen to a few tracks from her new album. If you like blues/jazz, acoustic, folk and indie rock, then you'll love Lindaâs music combined sultry vocals and tuneful melodies.

The most interesting thing about Lindaâs music and herself is the raw honesty to them, the naturalness combined with truth and fearlessness. She has been described as a fine wine that only gets better with age. But why not see for yourself what everyoneâs talking about. Attend some of her gigs in Ireland or the UK in the coming weeks.
