File Ratings

Hey guys, now that files can only be rated by the buyer in the download section, are you considering using the ratings as part of the search results ranking? i.e. files with more stars would appear higher in the search results

Hi, yes we actually think about the rating as a ranking factor starting at the end of the summer. Google does it now with the Panda and we will start to do it here, too!

Do you like the new rating system? Any experiences so far?

Yes I think it makes sense, since now the only people that can rate the files are the ones that have actually viewed it

But I did notice the rating system only comes up if the buyer buys 2 or more files.... Is it possible for it to show if they only buy 1 file?

That should work with 1 file as well - very strange! Do you have a screen shot?

It always appears when a buyer has purchase 2 or more files, but I noticed now that it is intermittant if they bought 1 file. Sometimes it appears and sometimes it doesn't.

I just sent a screenshot to your email address

we have been changing that around and ask buyers now to rate files. in the future, we want to promote files with good reviews! that is still in flux!

Hi,

That seems to be a good idea to promote files with better ratings.

But I have one doubt. Already files have ratings in them. The new ratings will add to those and you will be considering the overall ratings as a criteria for displaying in the catalog search results, right?

well, the basic idea is to just promote top rated files... but that means they need 3+ good ratings (4 or 5 stars) to be promoted!

Also: in power mode you can filter the bad reports away - but you should not... rather improve the product quality!
