ROCK: Psychedelic, ELECTRONIC: Ambient
Fuzzmuzz is an electro-acoustic, ambient artist who took the musical
pulses of Miami, New York, and LA before settling into the studio in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, to record this first solo release, Fuzzmuzz "One." This downtempo, electronic chill-out soundscape appeals to hipsters, rockers, and shoe-gazers alike. Evocative of a midnight drive on a deserted highway, this musical journey loops live recordings that are mixed with subtle drum programming for an effect that is poetic, even hypnotic.
Fuzzmuzz, a.k.a. Winston Harrison, cites influences as diverse as
Pink Floyd, Bill Frisell, and Erik Satie. The minimalist tradition is in play, too, and listeners might hear echoes of composer Phillip Glass, whose music for the opera, "Fall of the House of Usher," remains one of Winston''s indelible musical memories from boyhood ("That was, perhaps, the only time I did not fall asleep at the opera as a child…"). With a degree in jazz performance from the University of Miami, Winston joined the band of fellow U. of Miami grad, Gabe Dixon. In 2000, The Gabe Dixon Band was signed to Warner Reprise and toured the U. S. extensively.
